Shell taking over its forecourt stores from 7-Eleven

Date : 03 October 2017

Shell Singapore has announced that it will end its 11-year partnership with 7-Eleven. The moved started with the launch Shell Select store at Tampines Avenue 2 in June.

Commitment to grow retail business

The plan is for a national revamp to take place in phases, with the introduction of Shell Select and Deli by Shell. Shell currently has 57 stations, a decline from 74 in 2003. The shrinkage is industry-wide, with the total number dropping from 222 in 2003 to 170 today.

Shell retail general manager Aarti Nagarajan said, "we are committed to invest and grow our retail business in Singapore, which remains a strategic country for Shell."

Forecourt stores evolving into retail destinations

We have seen forecourt stores changing globally to improve overall profitability for fuel station operators. This becomes more important as more hybrid cars and electric cars come into play, and fuel operators are adapting their offerings to the changing market context. We believe that forecourt stores will evolve to better meet shoppers' missions as demands for more convenience and multi-channel shopping grow.
